The whenua provides a touch-point for the owners and their descendants in order to gain pride in their asset. Between the commercial properties run by Pukeroa Oruawhata and the farming estate run by the Incorporation, the owners want to engage more.

The owners need to receive a benefit – these could be through increased grants, support for the marae, support to get into employment and for those overseas, being able to get regular updates and information, so a range of benefits are sought.

If a dividend or the like is to be paid it needs to be sustainable, not just a one-off. We are working hard towards making this a reality and investigating different methods of doing this.
